"I have loved you with an everlasting love...And I know the plans I have for you says the Lord"
Jeremiah:29-31
Today is the feast day for the foundress of "The Congregation of Our Lady of the Cenacle." Saint or Mother Therese has much to teach us about humility, perseverance in the midst of obstacles and steadfastness in times of persecutions. During these times of suffering she had a mystical experience of profound love and gratitude for Our Lord and for all his creation. The following is an excerpt of her experience. "A few days ago, I saw something that consoled me very much. It was during my thanksgiving, when I was making a few reflections on the goodness of God — and how would it be possible not to think of this in such moments: of this infinite goodness, uncreated goodness, source of all goodness! And without which there would be no goodness, neither in people nor in other creatures. I was extremely touched by these reflections, when I saw written as in letters of gold this word Goodness, which I repeated for a long while with an indescribable sweetness. I saw it, I say, written on all creatures, animate and inanimate, rational or not — all bore this name of goodness. I saw it even on the chair which I was using for a kneeler. I understood then that all that these creatures have of good and all the services and help that we receive from each of them are a blessing that we owe to the goodness of our God, who has communicated to them something of his infinite goodness, so that we may meet it in everything and everywhere." Saint Therese Couderc, Letter of August 10, 1866 St Therese of Couderc Pray for us! + The Christian faith is to surrender the will, to humble the pride, to become like a little child; to believe in the unseen; to know that there is another world than that about us, to enter it by Baptism, to live in it by the Holy communion; to be guided by the voice and hand of an invisible Master; to be drawn nearer and nearer to that blessed Home of which death is only the portal, to be in it, yet far above it; to despise none of its beauty or goodness or excellence, and yet to have the life hid with Christ in God; above its din and noise, to hear celestial harmonies; in the midst of its hurry an bustle, to be at peace; to care neither for its honors nor its persecutions; sober in prosperity, patient and resigned in adversity, at rest in life, at rest in death, one with Christ for ever! Blessed James Dekoven Lord, in mid-morning you gave your Holy Spirit to the apostles gathered in prayer in the Upperroom. Give us a share in the life and love that your Spirit brings! May our lips praise you: our lives proclaim your goodness; our work give you honor and our voices celebrate you for ever! Grant this through Christ our Lord...Amen! Saint Hildegard was the first saint I learned about after I converted to Christianity. The church I was attending was a new age, nondenominational church that highly regarded her. The more I got to know her, the more I started to question everything that this church was teaching me about Christianity and I longed to learn about the church Saint Hildegard was a part of. She was a Benedictine Abbess, a visionary and mystic, a poet, a musician who composed her own liturgical music and a consultant to bishops and the future pope! She is an inspiring woman and she was raised in the Catholic church!!! There are many phenomenal women in the church and I aspire to be one of them in my own way.... in the way God made me to be. A Prayer from St Hildegard " "Holy Spirit, the life that gives life: You are the cause of all movement. You are the breath of all creatures. You are the salve that purifies our souls. You are the ointment that heals our wounds. You are the fire that warms our hearts. You are the light that guides our feet. Let all the world praise you! God is the foundation for everything Such that nothing that is necessary for life is lacking. Now humankind needs a body that at all times honors and praises God. This body is supported in every way through the earth. Thus the earth glorifies the power of God " St Hildegard PRAY FOR US!! |
